Nosotros no podemos aconsejarle qué documento usar.

If your child will travel to Mexico without one or both parents, you may be asked for a travel consent with a notarized signature. Here is how to get it notarized in Chicago.

1. Check the requirements with the right source

Whether a consent is required, which form to use, and whether it needs an apostille is decided by the Consulate of Mexico and your airline. Check with them before your visit. We do not give legal or immigration advice.

2. Have the consent already written

Use the form they indicate (many consulates publish an official one). We do not draft legal documents: you bring the complete consent, unsigned.

3. Sign in front of the notary public

  • Each parent or guardian signing the consent must come in person.
  • Bring a valid government photo ID (passport, consular ID, driver's license, or state ID).
  • Notarization is $5 per notarization, the legal maximum in Illinois, done the same day.
A parent can't come?

Ask the consulate or an attorney which alternative they accept. We cannot advise you on which document to use.

4. Apostille, if required

If the consulate or airline requires an apostille, we can process it with the Illinois Secretary of State (separate service; timing depends on that office).
